I'm Still Alive

I'm still alive. Sorry for not sending an email out last week. I was in the middle of typing up my email when my computer crashed, and no draft was saved.

Indonesia is still really hot. In case you haven't already heard, the city I am serving in,Surabaya, is the hottest city in the mission. We are always sweating! I am so grateful that we only have to wear short sleeve shirts here. I see pictures of missionaries who served here in the 70's and 80's, and they wore long sleeve shirts. Also the people here wear jackets when they are driving their motor bikes. They do this because the wind is too cold. I don't understand how they aren't burning up under their jackets. Even the wind here is hot!

The work here is really good. I can feel the spirit guide my companion and I as we work. I haven't had a 'general conference worthy' spiritual experience, but I can testify that I know my God exists, that Jesus Christ is our savior, and that today we have a prophet called of God. I also know that the restoration of the gospel began with the prophet Joseph Smith, and that he, through the power of God, translated the Book of Mormon.

Each day I start with an hour of personal study, in which I focus on the holy scriptures. As I read from the Bible and Book of Mormon each day, I can feel the influence of the spirit in my life. I want to bear testimony that I know that gospel is true, and that with daily, sincere, prayerful study of the scriptures we will draw ourselves closer to Christ, and feel his love in our life.

Picture time. I know you have been waiting to see some pictures of my face. Here it goes:
1. My companion Elder Lasalosi and myself
2. My district
3. Es Campur (mixed ice). It is a desert here that consists of chopped up fruit, small pieces of jello, water, shaved ice, syrup, and sweet & condensed milk. It is really good.
