Last Week @ MTC?

This Tuesday in our Devotional we heard from Elder Bednar, who is an apostle. Also in attendance were nine other apostles. It was really cool seeing all of them. He started off his talk by sharing the following scriptures:

John 1:1
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Alma 32:28
28 Now, we will compare the word unto a seed. Now, if ye give place, that a seed may be planted in your heart, behold, if it be a true seed, or a good seed, if ye do not cast it out by your unbelief, that ye will resist the Spirit of the Lord, behold, it will begin to swell within your breasts; and when you feel these swelling motions, ye will begin to say within yourselves—It must needs be that this is a good seed, or that the word is good, for it beginneth to enlarge my soul; yea, it beginneth to enlighten my understanding, yea, it beginneth to be delicious to me.

Alma 32:41
41 But if ye will nourish the word, yea, nourish the tree as it beginneth to grow, by your faith with great diligence, and with patience, looking forward to the fruit thereof, it shall take root; and behold it shall be a tree springing up unto everlasting life.

The greatest gift God can give us is Eternal life, which is living with our Father in Heaven in a perfect and resurrected body. To receive this gift, according to the scriptures, we must let Christ come into our hearts. The prophet Alma explained this to those he taught by using a seed as a metaphor for Jesus Christ. He testifies that if we are willing to give him a place in our hearts, and nourish that seed until it springs up into a  tree, we may receive Eternal Life. The question then, is How can I give place for Christ in my heart, and nourish up his gospel unto everlasting life? Alma answers that with diligence, patience, and enduring to the end, we can eat the fruit of the tree, which is Eternal life. I pray that we may all come to allow Christ more room in our hearts, and with all  our diligence, patience, and enduring to the end, he will bestow upon us this gift.

This week we have all been looking forward to leaving for Indonesia. Monday was supposed to be the day that we were going to fly out of Utah and into Indonesia, but our visas have yet to arrive. As of today, it looks like my group will be staying here at the MTC until our visas come, which looks like it will be Wednesday. The last group of missionaries headed for Indonesia were in the same situation, and they ended up staying an extra 10 days. I hope that I will not have to do the same.

Not much different has been happening around here. Still learning a lot. The language is really coming along. I know that I will be able to learn so much more in the country where everyone actually speaks it. I am really excited to fly to Indonesia, and serve the people there. I know how much they need the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.

Thanks so much to everyone who has been writing me. I really like hearing about everything you all are doing, and I especially like seeing pictures. Keep up the good work and keep writing me.
